Sandeman&Dickie
to Playset – Right lads... It’s
been a while since we caught up. We've been asked to ask you a bunch of music
related questions and vice-versa, so, let’s get them out the way and then get a
bit more personal!
So firstly ... What’s been
going on with you guys? I know you’ve been working on some productions together
- how are they coming along? Can we expect anything out soon?
Hey Hey,
good to catch up again with you felines, hope you’re not hitting the catnip to
hard lately! So yeah things are good. We have been working on some
production recently and it’s all going well.
We have
about 3 or 4 tracks pretty much ready with a couple of them already road
testing well. ‘Something Missing’ has been dropping very well out n about from
the desert in Burning Man to DC10 and is getting some great support. I think
we’ll release this along with All Over Me – a more four on the floor mover and
possibly ‘BadBoy’ which is a little bit deeper and glitchy. In fact at one
point during this track we were both attempting harmonies on the vocals which didn’t
sound too bad but contained the lyrics ‘just need one bad boy in my life’….
Something just wasn’t sounding right about that ;-). You’ve worked with us in
the studio so know how distracted we can get!
Playset to Sandeman&Dickie – I know you guys have been
busy with your Wildkats project, can we expect any music under the Sandeman
& Dickie Alias at all and individually?
Stuart:
Yeah definitely, we have been pretty busy the last few years concentrating
solely on our Wildkats project with Corey Baker, he is re-locating back to the
states this month so things are gonna re-jig a bit so you will be seeing some
cool new bits both individually and as Sandeman & Dickie.
Scott:
For sure... There's already a few bits and bobs that are in process and
something on a different tip from the Wildkats style both individually and as a
duo...
Sandeman&Dickie
to Playset – What track never
leaves your box?
Tom – Soul in a Bottle by Jay Haze
– Perfection
Ashley – Good choice...though I have
found Love Shack in Tom’s box on more than one occasion! For me – probs Thieve
Scrilla by Sect. Spicy…
Tom – haha – nob!
Playset
to Sandeman&Dickie – We’ve shared some great back to back
sets with you guys and always love what comes out of your box. Was there a tune
or event that started you on the road to DJ’ing and perhaps shaped your style
or anyone at the moment who is inspiring you? (us aside)
Stuart: It
was about 14 years ago when my elder sister got me on the road to DJing but it
was Daft Punk's homework album that shaped things musically.... although my
sound has taken some twists and turns since then. At the moment there are so
many great inspiring producers... our homeboys TBOY, Miguel Puente, Sishi
Rosch, Balcazar& Sordo and of course you guys! I also think having an
eclectic musical ear definately helps shape whats played on the dancefloor.
Scott:
A lot changed when i moved to London... Edinburgh wasn't so up to date at the
time with what i liked and the sound that was being played down south really
defined what I wanted to do.
Inspiration
comes from all over the place at the moment. I think there is so much cool
music popping up from all different artists and some really cool new labels
too. A lot of old tunes are creeping in all the time to our sets too
Sandeman&Dickie
to Playset – The name Playset,
where did you come up with that? We heard it was while playing with Polly
Pocket!? Come on, spill the beans...
Well it was
during a party where we were playing and afterwards, we found ourselves fucking
around with some bubbles we found. Upon seeing the name Bubble Playset in a
very cool font on the back of the bottle – through some rather disco tinted
glasses - we thought it perfect – a moment of inspiration!
After the
fog had cleared we needed to add a name to a track we were working on-Bubble
Playset just didn’t sound right, no surprise there! We knocked off the bubble
and it didn’t sound so bad…it was also a verb of sorts about what we do…clever
eh?
Playset to Sandeman&Dickie –You guys have just
returned from your Wildkats tour of US, Central and South America... what was
the highlight of the trip?
Stuart:
From start to finish the tour was A LOT of fun. My Favourite part of the US was
definitely in the dust of Burningman festival. We played the get physical Party
on the Robot Heart Bus, which I was so pleased to be a part of. The best sound
I've heard. Also, we played a really great sunrise party at Disco Knights with
the Thugfucker guys... the setting, the people, the atmosphere, and again the
sound at that camp is nuts. On to Brazil, we got such a warm welcome from
everyone especially from the Grow Music team. We played a badass festival
called Tribaltech where it all got a bit messy backstage with a cake fight!
Finally not forgetting the last stop, Mexico. Such a great place, great people,
great parties, great weather, great music, great food.... great woman (hope my
girlfriend isn't reading)
Scott:
Mikey Tello's birthday cake fight has to be the stand out moment for sure!
Mexico was awesome too. Always a great place to go back to and join up with a
lot of friends we've met there.
Sandeman&Dickie
to Playset – Where did you both
loose your virginity?
Ash - Well the place escapes us but
what I can tell you is that Tom was very gentle and caring. I will always thank
him for that and you never forget your first do you…
Tom – He wasn’t my first….
Ashley – You
what?........................
Playset to Sandeman&Dickie – Which one of you is the
Wildest-Kat?
Stuart:
We both have our moments... Scott traditionally has a bit more party in him,
but recently he has been more like Grandpa-Kat!
Scott:
Hmmmm.... I have my moments for sure. This trip was a long one and I got to
admit there was a changing of the roles by the end of it! Not quite taken that
walking stick from Stuart but i'm certainly getting older! Either that or the
mosquito bites wore me down a bit..... Yeah, definitely the mosquito's.
Sandeman&Dickie
to Playset – We know you two
have a couple of nicknames for each other too... Care to share them?
Tom
–
Gashley Child ! And he’s on a flyer somewhere…honestly. The picture is perfect.
Haha.
Ashley – Well as many people already
call Tom ‘Monkey or Moncoir’ it would be in vain to try and throw in a new
nickname. More interestingly though is that with a wig on Tom could be anyone.
One of my favorites is the chap from The Crying Game….
Playset
to Sandeman&Dickie Stuart – if Scott was a
finger puppet what would he be and what finger would you use?
Stuart- HAHAHA...
Really? What finger puppet would he be? HA...maybe the gingerbread
man... ... because he’s always running around and he’s kinda
ginger....and the finger.... would have to be the thumb, its not as long
as the others but has got some girth, so think he'd like that HAHAHA
